iPad Playbook Apps Updated!
After many weeks, the iPad Playbook apps have been updated! I apologize for the long wait compared to the iPhone Playbook app versions as Apple had a recent policy change that caused the initial update to be rejected. As a result, VGA output support has been removed for this release and I am working on a workaround that will comply with Apple’s new policy.
The latest update includes support for Cones for Basketball and Soccer. It also includes a fix for passes changing to dribbles. Enjoy!
iPhone Playbook Apps Updated for iOS 4
The iPhone Playbook Apps (PlaybookBball-To Go, PlaybookSoccer-To Go, and PlaybookWaterPolo) now been updated to support iOS4. In addition to more bug fixes, new features include:
- Import/Export Plays via iTunes Files Sharing (iOS 4 Required)
- Display Plays on a TV/Projector with the VGA Dock Adapter (iOS 4 Required)
Note: the above features are also supported on the iPad Playbook Apps (PlaybookBball, PlaybookSoccer, and PlaybookWaterPolo).
Community Forums Online!
I’ve setup a forum at community.daren.com, where users of the Playbook Apps (PlaybookBball, PlaybookSoccer, and PlaybookWaterPolo) can discuss and share sports strategy. Users can also use the forum to post feature requests, bugs and ask for help on how to use the apps. I hope it can become a resourceful site for sports strategy.

Playbook iPhone Apps Released!
PlaybookSoccer-To Go and PlaybookWaterPolo-To Go are now available on the App Store. If you’ve got an iPhone and don’t yet have an iPad, check ‘em out!
PlaybookSoccer Released!
Alright Soccer (Football) fans! PlaybookSoccer has been approved and is now available for download on the App Store. Check out the PlaybookSoccer page for more information.
Playbook Apps Support VGA Output
With the Apple Dock Connector to VGA Adapter, it is now possible to hook up any of the Playbook Apps to an external monitor or projector. VGA output could be very useful for coaches wanting to teach plays to their players. All of the Playbook Apps (PlaybookBball, PlaybookSoccer, and PlaybookWaterPolo) for the iPad support this feature. Plans are in the works to add support for the iPhone Playbook Apps as well, however, VGA output requires iPhone4 support.
Give it a try and let me know what you think!

I’ve been getting some great feedback on PlaybookBball and PlaybookBball-To Go since they both came out. Below are a few selected comments from customers. Thank you everyone for the positive feedback!
Praise for PlaybookBball:
“Incredible app – The best app for basketball plays by far! The developer has made some really good improvements with adding color and the ability to change the speed of the plays. The only thing left that I would like to see would be the ability to save it and or email it as a video file. It can now be saved as a PDF but video would be more useful to me. Again, awesome app, well deserving of 5 stars!!!!!!!” – Hulkzx10r, via the App Store.
“Por fin alguien lo hace bien – Funciona de maravilla, es simple y potente. Un perfecto cuaderno con tus jugadas o entremos que puedes mostrar al equipo. He comprado Todas las otras aplicaciones y o bien se colgaban o fallaban o eran un lío. En esta las fichas se mueven a tu velocidad, desaparecen las líneas en su momento, etc. Para mi es perfecta. Enhorabuena. Dinero bien gastado.” – Pargo, via the App Store.
Above comment translated to English (Thanks Nak):
“Finally someone does it well – works great, is simple and powerful. Perfect as a notebook where you can enter your moves & can show the team. I bought all the other apps and they either hung or failed or were a mess. In this app the pieces move at your speed, lines disappear in time, etc. For me its perfect. Congratulations. Money well spent.” – Pargo, via the App Store.
“If you are a basketball coach with an ipad you must get playbookbball or playbookbball-to go iPhone. This is a great app by @playbookbball” – c0achE, via Twitter.
“Just purchased the iPad version of the playbookbball app. Easy to learn and use. Great, so far. ” – Bill, Coach at Our Lady of Grace 5th and 6th grade, via email.
Praise for PlaybookBball-To Go:
“Just wanted to say I got the update and the app is awesome now. Excellent stuff great coaching tool and worth every penny…. I would say this is the best app I have on my itouch [iPod Touch].” – Sala Sidler, Coach, Wellington Heat Basketball Club , Wellington, New Zealand, via email.
PlaybookBball on Facebook
Did you know that PlaybookBball has a Facebook Page? Check it out and ‘Like’ it!
I’ve just uploaded a new video to YouTube about creating half court plays, the new ‘shooting’ motion type, play searching and play tagging within PlaybookBball (iPad). All of these features are also available on PlaybookBball-To Go (iPhone/iPod Touch) and behave nearly identically to their PlaybookBball counterpart. Check out the video and if you have any questions, just ask!
Mobile Optimized Site is Live
I’ve just installed a few WordPress plug-ins, one of them called WP-Touch that optimizes your blog for mobile devices. So, if you’ve got a mobile device check out this site on it for a mobile-optimized version.
Hi There!
Hi Everyone! Welcome to the new home of daren.com! After several years of using my domain for random personal things, I’ve finally decided to use it more constructively. In my spare time, I’ve worked on several projects such as a Fantasy Basketball Stats Web Site and iPhone/iPad Apps and will showcase them on this here.
Unfortunately, the Fantasy Basketball Stats project is on hold indefinitely and the site will be finally be taken down. However, with the popularity the iPhone and iPad, I will use this site to showcase my apps. Currently, I have three apps available in the App Store, PlaybookBball, an animated basketball playbook whiteboard for the iPad, PlaybookBball-To Go, an iPhone optimized version of PlaybookBball, and Shake or Die!, a Simon-like pattern memory game with a shake.
So, if you’re interested in my apps, come back and visit from time to time to learn of any updates on my currently released apps, or see what else is in the pipeline.
Thanks for visiting!
