Practice Cones in PlaybookFootball
I’ve just uploaded a new video to YouTube showing the use of practice cones. Practice Cones are available in PlaybookFootball and the latest versions of PlaybookBball and PlaybookSoccer.
Here’s the video:
PlaybookFootball is on the way!
Ever since PlaybookBball came out, I’ve had many people requesting a football version of the app. With the upcoming football season about to start, I’ve been working hard on adapting the app for football. PlaybookFootball has been submitted to the Apple App Store and should be available soon (pending Apple approval).
I’ve added some football specific features into the app, such as creating four different field areas. I figure that most football plays take up anywhere between 10-30 yards and that putting an entire football field on the iPad would make everything too crowded. So, I’ve created a ‘Red Zone’, ‘Goal Line’, ‘Between the 30s’, and ‘30 Yd’ Fields for users to draw their plays on.
Some new features that I’ve added (and will be incorporated with the rest of the Playbook Apps) are Practice Cones, and Passing to an Area. Practice cones could come in handy when a coach wants to draw up drills. Also, for all sports, players are constantly on the move and passes rarely get thrown to a stationary person.
I’ve figured out a workaround to Apple’s Policy Change and have reenabled VGA Output Support. This too will be coming soon to all the other Playbook Apps in a future update.
If there’s any features that you’d like to see in PlaybookFootball please let me know and I can provide you with a FREE copy of PlaybookFootball/PlaybookFootball-To Go (forthcoming).
iPad Playbook Apps Updated!
After many weeks, the iPad Playbook apps have been updated! I apologize for the long wait compared to the iPhone Playbook app versions as Apple had a recent policy change that caused the initial update to be rejected. As a result, VGA output support has been removed for this release and I am working on a workaround that will comply with Apple’s new policy.
The latest update includes support for Cones for Basketball and Soccer. It also includes a fix for passes changing to dribbles. Enjoy!
iPhone Playbook Apps Updated for iOS 4
The iPhone Playbook Apps (PlaybookBball-To Go, PlaybookSoccer-To Go, and PlaybookWaterPolo) now been updated to support iOS4. In addition to more bug fixes, new features include:
- Import/Export Plays via iTunes Files Sharing (iOS 4 Required)
- Display Plays on a TV/Projector with the VGA Dock Adapter (iOS 4 Required)
Note: the above features are also supported on the iPad Playbook Apps (PlaybookBball, PlaybookSoccer, and PlaybookWaterPolo).
Community Forums Online!
I’ve setup a forum at community.daren.com, where users of the Playbook Apps (PlaybookBball, PlaybookSoccer, and PlaybookWaterPolo) can discuss and share sports strategy. Users can also use the forum to post feature requests, bugs and ask for help on how to use the apps. I hope it can become a resourceful site for sports strategy.

Playbook iPhone Apps Released!
PlaybookSoccer-To Go and PlaybookWaterPolo-To Go are now available on the App Store. If you’ve got an iPhone and don’t yet have an iPad, check ‘em out!
PlaybookSoccer Released!
Alright Soccer (Football) fans! PlaybookSoccer has been approved and is now available for download on the App Store. Check out the PlaybookSoccer page for more information.
Playbook Apps Support VGA Output
With the Apple Dock Connector to VGA Adapter, it is now possible to hook up any of the Playbook Apps to an external monitor or projector. VGA output could be very useful for coaches wanting to teach plays to their players. All of the Playbook Apps (PlaybookBball, PlaybookSoccer, and PlaybookWaterPolo) for the iPad support this feature. Plans are in the works to add support for the iPhone Playbook Apps as well, however, VGA output requires iPhone4 support.
Give it a try and let me know what you think!
A few hours ago I got an email saying that PlaybookWaterPolo has been approved for sale for the App Store. So, for all you water polo fans out there, check out PlaybookWaterPolo for the iPad!
